Bette called for a consultation in the spring of 2019. She’d spent the last years caring for a sick spouse, and there simply was no time for working outdors. Sadly, she lost her spouse and was ready to turn her attention to the outdoors again. She wanted to stay in the home they had built, but wanted to create a lower maintenance landscape that she could manage herself. She also wanted to make sure that any changes would would be a solid investment if she chooses to move sometime in the future.
We began by removing overgrown shrubbery, saving only a few items that were well placed or had sentimental value. The front walkway was just stepping stones, and there was a massive step up to the front porch that was difficult to navigate. We added a step at the front porch, a concrete paver walkway, and a circular seating area. This home enjoys a a private wooded setting, so a small seating area in the front is perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning! Natural stone boulder walls were added to enable the addition of the seating area.
We designed and installed new landscaping, and finished this ultimate makeover with LED landscape lighting. Path lighting provides secure and safe navigation for guests, and uplights on the home add both security and beauty. Bette can now enjoy her front yard long after dark! Bette works at Longwood Gardens, and due to COVID restrictions in 2020 she was unable to work this spring. Working in her newly renovated yard was her therapy. She says, “I don’t know what I would have done if I didn’t have my yard to work in!”
Bette, thanks again for trusting us with your home makeover! Thanks too for the tickets to Longwood Gardens, our family thoroughly enjoyed our visit at Christmas!
