This backyard patio installation in Mount Joy was installed in 2020 in the midst of all the product shortages; for many projects, we had to balance the design objectives with the hardscape materials that were available. Ultimately, we were able to get the client’s first choice of materials! I love the combination of textures and colors on this patio. In the last decade, it seems the world has gone mad for everything gray; this backyard patio installation project is a testament that earth tones are not dead! Smooth concrete pavers were paired with cobbled borders and rock-faced steps, creating a great mix of textures. The patio design incorporated different geometric patterns, all carefully chosen to complement and define the space without becoming overwhelming.
The circular patio was sized to fit the proposed pergola perfectly; careful planning allowed us to pour footings and completely build the patio before the pergola was erected. The old adage of “measure twice, cut once” is a bit understated in a backyard patio installation project like this! A square “rug” design was added to the pergola area using the same pavers but on a smaller scale.
Changing the direction of the paving pattern also helped define the separate areas, a subtle detail that will never go out of style. The solid cedar pergola adds shade to this backyard as well as making a compelling visual statement; low voltage lighting in the pergola ensures that guests aren’t chased inside early as the days begin to shorten. Thanks, Bill & Kelli, for choosing us to design and build your backyard living area! We’re proud of how this backyard patio installation in Mount Joy turned out!
