What is the Patio & Outdoor Living Tour?
This tour offers you an opportunity to do a self-guided driving tour to 6-7 homes with paver patios and outdoor living areas. Each home is rather unique, ranging from $10,000 projects up to $100,000+. Homes are located in Akron, Ephrata, Mohnton, East Earl, & Oley, and all are in Lancaster and southern Berks county. Ticket sales benefit the Jeff Musser Foundation, which supports families of children battling cancer.
Why should you attend the tour?
First, it will be a fun, relaxing day. While Willow Gates will have team members at various locations throughout the day to answer any questions, this is a day for you to simply enjoy yourself! You can also gain some inspiration if you are planning a paver patio, outdoor kitchen, or other landscaping project.
Second, there’s going to be some great refreshments available… we believe in supporting local small businesses, and there are some wonderful options! You will find cinnamon buns from Village Farm Market, fresh cider & apple cider donuts from Weaver’s Orchard (in my humble opinion, neither can be beat!), and cheese from September Farms. Not all locations will have every option, of course… you’ll have to visit each one to see what they may have to offer!
Third… ticket sales are not a profit center for Willow Gates. Ticket sales will benefit the Jeff Musser Foundation.
Who is the Jeff Musser Foundation?
We first met Jeff & Pam in 2013 while working on a patio at their home. It wasn’t long until the foundation came up in our conversations, and of course I wanted to learn more as it was obviously an important part of their lives. The Jeff Musser Foundation supports families of children 16 years of age or younger who are battling cancer. The foundation steps in and assists with rent, mortgage payments, utilities, etc.- whatever it takes to enable the parent to stay with their child during their battle.
Why was the Jeff Musser Foundation chosen as the recipient? Well… you see, cancer comes very close to home for us (and, I realize, for many of you as well). My brother-in-law worked for Willow Gates many years ago, until he became too sick to work. While he was 18 at the time, since he was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma (a childhood form of cancer) he was treated at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. While visiting him there, we could help but see the many other, much younger victims of cancer. If you have ever visited a pediatric oncology ward… you know exactly what I mean. So for me, the Jeff Musser Foundation was the first choice; I greatly respect what Jeff & Pam are doing to help others.
What types of patios are featured on the tour?
Certainly, there are a variety of styles and budgets in the projects on tour! All feature paver patios, but there the similarity ends! You’ll find some of the following features at various locations:
- Outdoor kitchen with smoker grill
- Smokeless fire pit, both wood burning & gas
- Variety of paver styles
- Outdoor lighting
- Poolside patio with extensive landscaping and lighting
- Natural patio nestled in the woods
- Fire table
And yes, you will have the chance to make s’mores over a fire!
